The Theodore Alexander Atcombe Side Chair is a carved mahogany side chair with an upholstered framed back topped by a swirl mahogany veneered scroll-over toprail and fine brass details. Upholstered in Lillian Cream fabric and given a Shoreham finish, it suits homeowners furnishing a formal dining room who want English cabinet-making detail in a chair that still feels light at the table.
Design & Craftsmanship
From Theodore Alexander's English Cabinet Maker collection, the Atcombe is built in khaya wood with okoume veneer and finished in Shoreham (VCF922.1A2B). The scroll-over toprail is the signature: a swirl-figured mahogany veneer curls above the upholstered back and is picked out with brass. Below, the upholstered seat rests on panelled seat rails and turned, fluted legs that end in splay feet. Lillian Cream (UP5044) is a 60% polyester, 40% cotton cloth with an S cleaning code and welted trim, and the seat sits at 19¾" with an inside seat depth of 20½". Around a mahogany table in Pinecrest or a Coral Gables home with traditional millwork, the Theodore Alexander Atcombe Side Chair holds its own beside period antiques. A matching armchair is available for the ends of the table.
