Lady Emily's Favourite Armchair

The Theodore Alexander Lady Emily's Favourite Armchair is a hand carved caned back armchair with a verdigris brass oval inset at its crest, a silk tie-on cushion seat and spiral turned legs. Modelled on the original Regency chair, it brings a lightness to the head of the table that solid upholstered armchairs cannot match, and it works equally well pulled up to a writing desk.

Design & Craftsmanship

From Theodore Alexander's TA Originals collection, the frame is carved in khaya wood and finished in Walnut (VCF001), while the caning carries an Antique Rattan finish (VCF166) that reads as aged and mellow rather than new. The oval brass inset is given a verdigris patina, adding a flash of green-blue against the wood. The cushion is covered in Barley Houndstooth fabric (UP4519), a 100% polyester weave with cleaning code S, and finished with welting trim; it ties onto the seat so it can be lifted for cleaning. With a 17¾-inch seat height and 26-inch arm height, the chair is slightly lower than most dining seating, which gives it a relaxed, drawing-room feel.
