Penreath Armchair

For the head of a Chippendale style table, the Theodore Alexander Penreath Armchair adds scroll terminal arms to the Penreath side chair while keeping its serpentine top rail, pierced vase splat and square chamfered legs joined by stretchers. Inspired by a George III original and hand carved in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, it gives the host a chair with presence that still matches the rest of the set line for line.

Design & Craftsmanship

The frame is khaya wood, carved and then finished in Light Georgian (VCF887.1A2B) by Theodore Alexander's Essential collection workshop, a pale mahogany colour that shows the carving of the splat without the darkness of older reproductions. The drop-in seat is enclosed by the arms and upholstered in Draper Performance fabric (UP5409), 100% polyester with cleaning code S, which makes it practical for a family that eats together every night. Seat height is 19½ inches and the arms rest at 25 inches. At 25 inches wide the chair is a little broader than the side chair, so it reads as the anchor of the group.
