Sophy's Chair

An ebonised and parcel gilt occasional chair, the Theodore Alexander Sophy's Chair stacks a reeded, turned bar top rail over a pierced trellis back, with an upholstered drop-in seat held between downswept channelled arms on splayed ring turned legs. Inspired by a Regency original, it is an accent chair for a living room, bedroom corner or entry that wants one piece with real decorative punch.

Design & Craftsmanship

Theodore Alexander's TA Originals collection makes the frame in mahogany with cane and layers three finishes: Antique hand painting (PCF059) for the ebonised ground, Heavy Rubbed Italian Gold 2010 (PCF204) for the parcel gilding on the rail, trellis and turnings, and Madeleine Vrai (PCF307). The result is the black-and-gold contrast Regency makers loved, worn back so it reads as antique rather than new. The drop-in seat is covered in Alpaca fabric (UP5329A), 100% polyester with cleaning code W and welting trim. Seat height is 19¾ inches, the arms sit at 24 inches, and the inside seat is 21 inches wide by 20 inches deep, comfortable for a full evening of conversation.
