The Seddon Armchair

The Theodore Alexander The Seddon Armchair reproduces a chair from a very large dining set that George Seddon designed around 1800, and it keeps every line that made the original worth copying: a shaped, waisted back with serpentine uprights, an upholstered seat, and moulded cabriole legs that end in neat spade feet. It is the armchair to place at the head of a traditional table, or to pair with matching side chairs from the same Althorp Living History collection.

Design & Craftsmanship

The frame is khaya wood, the mahogany used across the Althorp reproductions, finished in Antique Ramsey Mahogany (VCF107) and paired with a second finish, Light Brown (LCF415). The seat is covered in Swirl Brown leather (LE0012), a warm hide with visible movement in its surface, and it is fixed to the frame with French Natural Nail trim, a row of pale nailheads that follows the seat rail. Arm height is 25 inches and the seat sits 20 inches from the floor, comfortable proportions for a long dinner.
