Caracole Solar Mirror

Artist and designer Jose Leite de Castro brings asymmetrical interest to the classic round wall mirror with the Caracole Solar Mirror. Twenty inches in diameter, it layers solid brass circles with White Lacquer in an off-centre pattern that suggests a sun and its orbiting planets, and the designer chose gold mirror for the glass to lift the luxury another notch. Design & Craftsmanship

Introduced in Caracole's Spring 2018 season and listed under the Disco collection, the Solar is as much wall sculpture as looking glass. The brass circles are arranged asymmetrically around the reflective disc, and the white-lacquered elements break up the metal so the composition reads crisp rather than heavy. Because the mirror itself is gold-toned, reflections take on a warm cast that flatters skin and evening light. At only one inch deep, it hangs close to the wall and suits a narrow hallway or the space above a console. In a Coral Gables foyer it pairs with lacquered case goods and brass hardware; in a Miami Beach apartment it holds its own against white walls and terrazzo floors.
